Keyless Entry System
The key fob has an internal chip which allows it to communicate with your receiver module. It's possible that, if the key fob suddenly ceases to function it is because the internal chip has been damaged. This could happen when you drop the key fob on the ground, or if you've tried use an alternative key fob and it's not working. In this scenario, you can still start your vehicle by pressing the "Start" button on the key fob, if the battery isn't dead.
If the key fob is functioning it will send an indication to the receiver module that tells it which door or trunk is open. The module then opens the correct trunk or door so that you can get into the car and start it. The car can also be locked or unlocked by pressing the button on the remote control. Certain systems are able to recognize the fob of the driver and automatically lock the car when they leave.
Most Kia models have an integrated keyless entry system that includes keys for remotes and a transponder flip key. Certain systems require a locksmith who is a professional to program them, whereas others do not require a locksmith. Key fobs and flip keys are powered by batteries and need to be replaced every two years or as often. You'll require a CR-2032 battery available on the internet for less than $5.
Key Fob
The key fob used in Kia vehicles is a standard, cylindrical silver device with an arrow in the upper left corner. Transponder Chip Key
The transponder key is a security device used in cars that transmits a unique number when it is placed in the ignition. The immobilizer shuts off the fuel pump, starter motor, and any other devices that allow the car to run despite the identification code of the transponder chip.
The key is made of steel with a cap made of plastic that houses the transponder. To remove the ignition key, you will have to use a screwdriver in order to get sufficient leverage. After the key has been removed, the user is able to observe and remove the chip - it appears as a small black square or a transparent tube. The chip is then put on an adhesive tape and is attached to the ignition lock in close proximity to the ignition barrel.
Locksmiths can make new key fobs, remotes or proximity chips for Kia Sportage for a fraction of the cost that you'd pay at dealers.
